Chapter 12: Shopping for Plans

If you are retiring before the age of 65, it is important to plan your bridge to Medicare. Some people forget that there are potential out-of-pocket costs for medical coverage.

Some people, even if they retire before age 65, continue to receive coverage from an employer. Others do not. It is critical to understand your options because some of these plans can be costly.

If you are in a situation where extra coverage is needed, consider a Medigap or Medicare Advantage Plan.

Be sure to shop your plans annually to maximize your benefits and savings.

And, if necessary, contact SHIP. Their services are free, the volunteers are knowledgeable, and they are happy to help.
